Swiss Bretton Woods constituency meets in Bad Ragaz

Bern, 04.07.2022 - On 4 July 2022, Federal Councillors Ueli Maurer and Guy Parmelin, together with Swiss National Bank Chairman Thomas Jordan, will welcome the members of the Swiss constituency in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, the Bretton Woods institutions, in Bad Ragaz. The constituency is celebrating its 30-year anniversary this year, which is why IMF and World Bank representatives, including Kristalina Georgieva, the IMF's Managing Director, and Anna Bjerde, the Vice President of the World Bank, are invited to Bad Ragaz.

At Switzerland's invitation, the Swiss constituency in the Bretton Woods institutions will meet on 4 July 2022. At the meeting, the constituency members will discuss cooperation within the group, as well as the day-to-day core business of the IMF and World Bank. The focus will be on the short- and long-term challenges for the global economy, for the financial and trading system, for sustainable development and poverty reduction, and for constituency members in general. The constituency representatives will also attend a seminar on the opportunities and challenges posed by digital and sustainable finance. Federal Councillors Ueli Maurer and Guy Parmelin, together with Swiss National Bank Chairman Thomas Jordan, will hold bilateral talks with their counterparts on the fringes of the meeting.

As a rule, the members of the Swiss Bretton Woods constituency meet every two years outside the customary ministerial meetings of the IMF and World Bank in a constituency country. Along with Switzerland, the group consists of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Poland, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The last meeting of the Swiss constituency outside the Bretton Woods meetings in Washington took place on 2 July 2018 in Warsaw.
