FINMA: Federal Council elects Anne Héritier Lachat as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors
Bern, 22.12.2010 - Today, the Federal Council elected Anne Héritier Lachat as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA). Anne Héritier Lachat, who is already a member of the FINMA Board of Directors, will succeed Eugen Haltiner on 1 January 2011.
FINMA will be chaired by Dr. Anne Héritier Lachat from January 2011. At its meeting today, the Federal Council elected her to be Chairwoman of the Board of Directors as successor to Dr. Eugen Haltiner. The 60-year-old lady from Western Switzerland has been a member of the FINMA Board of Directors since 2008, and prior to that was a member of the Swiss Federal Banking Commission (SFBC) from 2005.
Thanks to her FINMA/SFBC experience, she knows how important foreign regulators function. She is also familiar with the global interrelations in the financial system and strategic issues in the regulatory area.
Anne Héritier Lachat currently teaches part time as a Professor of Banking and Financial Law at the University of Geneva. She also works as an independent lawyer.
She will stop teaching at the end of the 2011 spring semester, and will cease working as an independent lawyer from January 2011.
Anne Héritier Lachat studied law and graduated from the University of Geneva. She is married and has two grown children.
