Anniversary of Russian invasion of Ukraine
The President of the Swiss Confederation, Karin Keller-Sutter, has written a message for the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Message from Federal President Karin Keller-Sutter on the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine
Three years ago, Russia invaded Ukraine in defiance of international law. Since then, it has inflicted death and suffering on millions of people.
From the outset, Switzerland has strongly condemned the Russian aggression towards Ukraine and shown solidarity with the Ukrainians who have sought refuge here. It participates in the sanctions against Russia, provides humanitarian aid and economic assistance on the ground, and actively supports international peace efforts.
The goal must be to achieve a just and lasting peace. Switzerland will continue to work towards national and international security and peace in Europe. It is participating in the reconstruction effort for Ukraine.
This war has shown us that, for too long, we have laboured under the illusion of permanent peace. In the process, we, like many countries, have neglected our own military security.
We continue to entertain the hope that the war in Ukraine will find a lasting and just conclusion.
