Informal meeting between Kaspar Villiger and Frits Bolkestein

03. jui 2002 - President of the Confederation, Kaspar Villiger today met with EU Commissioner Frits Bolkestein. The purpose of the meeting, which was conducted with no fixed agenda was to exchange thoughts informally on the issue of the taxation of savings income.

Mr. Villiger and Mr. Bolkestein have previously met informally on numerous occasions on the initiative of either one party or the other. Today 's meeting took place at Mr. Bolkestein 's suggestion. The subject of the discussion was the on-going round of bilateral negotiations on the taxation of savings income, which began on 18th June. The negotiations themselves are nevertheless being conducted by the delegations mandated for the task. It was agreed between the two parties that further details of the discussions that took place would not be made public.
