The United States Internal Revenue Service has withdrawn the request for administrative assistance submitted in July 2008 in the case involving UBS. The official letter of withdrawal was received by the Federal Tax Administration (FTA) on 16 March 2009. The Federal Council acknowledged the move today. The withdrawal of the request means that there is no longer any legal basis for the administrative assistance proceedings. The FTA will therefore formally conclude its work on the case.

The UBS clients against whom proceedings have been started but who have yet to receive a conclusive ruling will be notified by the FTA of the closure of the proceedings. The FTA is to revoke the rulings already issued and declare them to be no longer valid.
